Enter grams to find the matching ordinary weight ounces for a recipe, scale, package, or label.
This is oz by weight, also called an ordinary or avoirdupois ounce. It is not a fluid ounce (fl oz) or a troy ounce.

How to use our Grams To Ounces Calculator
- Leave Convert set to "Grams to ordinary ounces."
- Type the weight from your recipe, scale, package, or label in Grams (g). Decimals are allowed, and large values can use commas, such as 1,000.5.
- Select Calculate to see the equivalent Weight in ordinary ounces.
- Sanity-check the unit: use this answer for weight, not fluid ounces (fl oz) or precious-metal troy ounces (troy oz).
- For a small measurement or detailed check, open Advanced options and choose more Result decimal places.

Definitions
Gram (g): A metric unit of mass. It is the weight you enter.
Ordinary ounce (oz): The avoirdupois weight ounce used for food, packages, kitchen scales, postage, and many US labels. One ordinary ounce equals exactly 28.349523125 grams.
Fluid ounce (fl oz): A unit of volume, not mass. Converting grams to fluid ounces requires the density of the specific material.
Troy ounce (troy oz): A different mass unit used for precious metals. It is not the ordinary ounce used by this calculator.
Decimal places: Digits shown after the decimal point. This setting changes display rounding only.
Common mistakes and quick fixes
Mistake: Entering a negative number in Grams (g).
Fix: Enter zero or a positive weight.
Mistake: Typing a comma pattern such as 1,00.
Fix: Check Convert and then recalculate. Use commas only as thousands separators, such as 1,000 or 1,000.5.
Mistake: Treating the ounce result as fluid ounces.
Fix: Check Convert and then recalculate. Use this calculator for weight only. Fluid ounces measure volume and require the density of the liquid or ingredient.
Mistake: Using the result for gold, silver, or another item labeled troy oz.
Fix: Check Convert and then recalculate. Use a troy-ounce conversion when the source explicitly says troy oz.
Mistake: Treating a rounded display as the exact converted amount.
Fix: Check Convert and then recalculate. Choose more decimal places when checking a small scale reading or detailed specification.
Limitations & Key Assumptions / Boundary Conditions
- This calculator converts mass to mass only: grams to ordinary avoirdupois ounces.
- It cannot convert grams to fluid ounces because fluid ounces measure volume and the material's density is required.
- It does not use troy ounces. Use a troy-ounce conversion if the source explicitly states troy oz.
- The visible result is rounded to the selected number of decimal places, although the conversion is calculated before display rounding.
- A recipe, kitchen scale, or package label may already be rounded or measured with error; this calculator converts the number entered using the stated factor.
Methodology
Conversion method
The calculator divides the entered weight in grams by the exact number of grams in one ordinary avoirdupois ounce.
ordinary ounces = grams / 28.349523125
One ordinary ounce is exactly 28.349523125 grams.
Worked example
For 100 g, divide 100 by 28.349523125. The unrounded answer is 3.527396195 oz, which displays as 3.53 oz when Result decimal places is set to 2.
100 g / 28.349523125 g per oz = 3.527396195 oz
Rounding and input checks
The calculator keeps the unrounded ounce value, then rounds only the displayed result. Zero grams converts to zero ounces. Negative values, ranges, formulas, and incorrectly grouped commas are rejected because the calculator needs one nonnegative gram amount.
