• This calculator estimates a target from body weight and a selected goal. It does not account for your dog's full diet, other supplements, or medical history.
• The math uses combined EPA + DHA only. If a label lists total fish oil or total omega-3 instead, the serving result can be very wrong.
• Goal factors are general reference values. A veterinarian may choose a different target for an individual dog.
• For Joint support (arthritis max), the result is a maximum reference dose, not always the best starting amount. Some dogs may need a slower increase because of stomach upset.
• Fractional softgel results may be impractical if the product cannot be split evenly.
• Very large liquid servings can happen with weak products. In that case, a more concentrated product may be easier to use.

General wellness uses 30 mg/kg^0.75. Skin or immune support uses 125 mg/kg^0.75. Heart support uses 115 mg/kg^0.75. Kidney support uses 140 mg/kg^0.75. High blood fats support uses 120 mg/kg^0.75. Joint support (arthritis max) uses 310 mg/kg^0.75. If you choose Use my own target, the calculator uses your custom number instead.

Worked example

Suppose your dog weighs 50 lb, you choose General wellness, and your liquid product provides 248 mg of combined EPA + DHA per mL.

weight_kg = 50 x 0.45359237 = 22.6796

mbw = 22.6796^0.75 = 10.3927

daily_target_mg = 10.3927 x 30 = 311.78

serving_ml = 311.78 / 248 = 1.26

serving_tsp = 1.26 / 5 = 0.25

So the daily target is about 312 mg of combined EPA + DHA, which is about 1.26 mL per day, or about 0.25 tsp per day.

Daily EPA + DHA target is the main answer to compare with the label. Suggested daily serving tells you how much of your chosen product matches that target. If the serving looks unusually large or tiny, the most common reason is that the label entry was not the combined EPA + DHA value.

The calculator assumes your entered product strength is the combined EPA + DHA amount for one mL or one softgel, matching the selected form. It ignores hidden custom-target input unless the custom goal is selected. Liquid kitchen measure uses the standard conversion of 1 teaspoon equals 5 mL.
