How to use our Tons to Ounces Converter
- Set Convert to either Tons to ounces or Ounces to tons.
- Enter the weight in Amount to convert; use a number like 1, 1.5, or 64000.
- Choose Type of ton and Type of ounce before calculating, because these choices can change the answer.
- Click Calculate, then read Converted amount first and use Conversion used to confirm the exact unit pair.
- Sanity-check the answer with Same weight in pounds and Same weight in kilograms; for example, 1 US short ton should show 2,000 lb.

Definitions
US short ton: The common US ton. It equals 2,000 standard pounds, or 907.18474 kilograms.
Metric tonne: A metric weight unit equal to 1,000 kilograms. It is heavier than a US short ton.

Standard weight ounce: The regular ounce used for most US weight measurements. It is also called the avoirdupois ounce.
Troy ounce: A heavier ounce used mainly for precious metals. It is not the same as a standard weight ounce.
Conversion used: The exact source unit and result unit used for the calculation, shown so you can catch unit mix-ups.
Common mistakes and quick fixes

Mistake: Choosing Troy ounce in Type of ounce for ordinary goods.
Fix: Choose Standard weight ounce unless you are working with precious metals such as gold or silver.

Fix: Use this converter only for weight ounces, not volume ounces.
Limitations & Key Assumptions / Boundary Conditions
- This converter handles weight only. It does not convert fluid ounces, which measure volume.
- The default setup uses US short ton and Standard weight ounce because that is the most common US meaning.
- Troy ounce results are for weight. They do not include purity, market price, or assay adjustments for precious metals.
- Very large values are formatted with commas when possible, but browser number precision can limit the last few digits for extreme inputs.
- Results use fixed conversion constants internally. Rounding is only for display, so repeated hand rounding may give a slightly different final digit.
- Zero is allowed and returns zero. Negative weights are blocked because a physical weight amount cannot be less than zero here.
Methodology
How the conversion is calculated
The calculator first turns the entered weight into kilograms using the selected source unit. It then divides by the kilogram value of the selected result unit. This is the standard conversion-factor method for changing from one unit to another [2].
tons to ounces: converted_amount = amount * ton_kg / ounce_kg
ounces to tons: converted_amount = amount * ounce_kg / ton_kg
same weight in pounds = source_mass_kg / 0.45359237
same weight in kilograms = source_mass_kg
Constants used
The ton constants are 907.18474 kg per US short ton, 1000 kg per metric tonne, and 1016.0469088 kg per UK long ton. The ounce constants are 0.028349523125 kg per standard weight ounce and 0.0311034768 kg per troy ounce. The pound constant is 0.45359237 kg per pound.
Mini-example
If Amount to convert is 1, Type of ton is US short ton, and Type of ounce is Standard weight ounce, the calculation is 1 * 907.18474 / 0.028349523125 = 32000. The supporting values are 907.18474 kg and 2000 lb.
