How to use our Months to Weeks Converter
- Enter the time length in Months. Decimals work for average calendar and 30-day conversions.
- Choose Month type: use Average calendar month for normal unit conversion, 30-day month for planning rules, or Real calendar dates when the start date matters.
- If you choose Real calendar dates, enter a valid Start date and use a whole number in Months.
- For a mixed duration, open Advanced options, enter Additional weeks, and use a positive or negative value in Days to add or subtract.
- Use Decimal places to control rounding, then check that Weeks, Whole weeks, and Extra days after whole weeks tell the same story.
- Compare Weeks per month used with your expected method so you do not accidentally treat every month as exactly 4 weeks.

Definitions
Average calendar month: A unit-conversion month based on an average Gregorian year divided by 12, equal to 30.436875 days.
30-day month: A planning rule that treats every month as exactly 30 days.
Real calendar dates: A method that adds whole calendar months to a Start date and counts the actual elapsed days.
Weeks per month used: The conversion factor behind the answer, shown in weeks per month.
Whole weeks: The full 7-day blocks in the answer before counting leftover days.
Extra days after whole weeks: The leftover days after the full weeks are counted.
Common mistakes and quick fixes
Mistake: Entering 1 in Months and expecting exactly 4 in Weeks .
Fix: Check Month type ; an average calendar month is about 4.348125 weeks, not 4 weeks.
Mistake: Using decimal Months with Month type set to Real calendar dates.
Fix: Enter a whole number of months or switch Month type to Average calendar month or 30-day month.
Mistake: Leaving Start date wrong when using Real calendar dates.
Fix: Set Start date to the actual first day of the span, then review End date .
Mistake: Reading only Whole weeks and ignoring Extra days after whole weeks .
Fix: Use Weeks for the full decimal answer, or read both whole weeks and extra days together.
Mistake: Setting Decimal places too low and thinking two close answers are the same.
Fix: Increase Decimal places when comparing methods, especially average calendar month versus 30-day month.
Limitations & Key Assumptions / Boundary Conditions
- The Average calendar month method uses 365.2425 days per year divided by 12, so it is a unit conversion, not a count of a specific month on a calendar.
- The 30-day month method is only right when your class, workplace, contract, or planning rule says each month has 30 days.
- The Real calendar dates method requires whole Months because calendar month addition is based on dates, not fractional months.
- When the target month does not have the same day number, the real-calendar method uses the last day of that target month, such as January 31 plus 1 month becoming February 28 in a non-leap year.
- Displayed values are rounded by Decimal places, but Whole weeks and Extra days after whole weeks are based on the unrounded day count.
- This converter handles time lengths only. It rejects negative Months, but Days to add or subtract may be negative as long as the final combined duration is not negative.
Methodology
How the method is selected
The calculator first reads Month type. Average calendar month is the default unit-conversion method. 30-day month uses a fixed planning month. Real calendar dates adds whole months to Start date and counts the actual days between dates.
Formulas
average weeks = (months * (365.2425 / 12) + additional weeks * 7 + day adjustment) / 7
30-day weeks = (months * 30 + additional weeks * 7 + day adjustment) / 7
end date = add days(add calendar months(start date, months), additional weeks * 7 + day adjustment)
real-calendar days = elapsed days from start date to end date
real-calendar weeks = real-calendar days / 7
whole weeks = floor(total days / 7)
extra days = total days - whole weeks * 7
weeks per month used = base month days / months / 7
Worked mini-example
For 3 Months with Month type set to Average calendar month, total days are 3 * 30.436875 = 91.310625 days. Weeks are 91.310625 / 7 = 13.044375 weeks. That is 13 Whole weeks with 0.310625 Extra days after whole weeks.
Calendar-date handling
For Real calendar dates, the calculator first adds the entered whole number of months to the start date, then applies Additional weeks and Days to add or subtract. If the same day number does not exist in the target month, it uses the last day of that month. For example, January 31, 2026 plus 1 month becomes February 28, 2026, so the elapsed time is 28 days, or 4 weeks.
Rounding and display
Decimal places changes only the displayed decimals. The split into Whole weeks and Extra days after whole weeks uses the full calculated day count before display rounding.
