How to use our Pints to Liters Converter
- Choose whether your starting measurement is in pints or liters.
- Enter the volume from your recipe, package, measuring container, batch record, or worksheet.
- Select US liquid pint for most US sources, or select UK imperial pint only when the source says UK or imperial.
- Click Calculate, then check that the pint definition shown with the answer matches your source measurement.

Definitions
US liquid pint: A US volume unit equal to 0.473176473 liters.
UK imperial pint: A pint used in the UK imperial system, equal to 0.56826125 liters.
Liter (L): A metric unit used to measure volume.
Pint type: The pint definition used in the calculation. US liquid and UK imperial pints are different volumes.
Common mistakes and quick fixes
Mistake: Treating every pint as the same size.
Fix: Select US liquid pint for most US recipes and packages. Select UK imperial pint only when the source specifically says UK or imperial.
Mistake: Entering liters while Pints to liters is selected.
Fix: Change Convert to Liters to pints, or enter the source amount in pints.
Mistake: Using a comma as a decimal mark, such as 1,5.
Fix: Use a decimal point, such as 1.5. Use commas only for thousands grouping, such as 1,000.5.
Mistake: Adding a suffix that does not match the selected direction.
Fix: For pints to liters, use pt, pint, or pints. For liters to pints, use L, liter, or liters.
Mistake: Rounding before using the converted value in another calculation.
Fix: Keep the displayed digits for later math, then round to what your measuring tool can actually read.
Limitations & Key Assumptions / Boundary Conditions
- This calculator converts volume, not weight. A pint of one food can weigh more or less than a pint of another food.
- The word "pint" alone may not identify the correct definition. Use the US liquid or UK imperial wording shown by the source.
- The answer may be more precise than a kitchen cup, bottle marking, or measuring jug. Round only to the precision your measuring tool supports.
- Source volumes must be zero or greater. Negative physical volumes are not accepted.
Methodology
Conversion method
The calculator uses a fixed liters-per-pint factor based on the selected pint type. A US liquid pint equals 0.473176473 L. A UK imperial pint equals 0.56826125 L.
liters = pints x liters per pint
pints = liters / liters per pint
Worked example
For 2 US liquid pints, multiply 2 by 0.473176473 L per pint. This gives 0.946352946 L. If the task needs three decimal places, the rounded answer is 0.946 L.
Calculation choices
The calculator uses the full conversion factor before formatting the displayed answer. It accepts zero and nonnegative decimal volumes, including conventional thousands grouping such as 1,000.5. It rejects negative values, malformed commas, ranges, formulas, scientific notation, and unit suffixes that do not match the selected direction.
