Use this CPS Calculator to test clicks per second, compare average vs peak speed, and track your best score for each test length.
Table of contents
How to use our CPS Calculator
- Choose a value in Test length (seconds), then pick Count clicks from as Mouse, Touch, or Keyboard.
- Set Sound cue to On if you want a start and end sound, or leave it off for a silent test.
- Press Calculate or use the test pad to start; a pad-start action counts as the first action. Then use only the input type you chose until the timer ends.
- Check Average CPS, Peak CPS, and Total clicks, then compare Best score for this test length and Attempts for this test length.
- Sanity-check the result: if Peak CPS is much higher than Average CPS, you likely had a short fast burst instead of a steady pace for the whole round.

Definitions
Test length (seconds): The total timed round length used to measure your clicking speed.
Count clicks from: The input type the round should count, mouse clicks, touch taps, or Space/Enter key presses.
Sound cue: An optional start and end sound to help you react without watching the timer the whole time.
Average CPS: Your total valid clicks divided by the full selected test time.
Total clicks: The number of valid clicks counted during the round.
Peak CPS: The most valid actions in any rolling 1000 ms window during the round; partial tail windows are never scaled up.
Best score for this test length: The highest saved Average CPS on this device for the same test length.
Attempts for this test length: How many saved rounds this device has recorded for the selected test length.
Note: A short message that explains counting rules, focus issues, or whether saved history is unavailable.
Common mistakes and quick fixes
Mistake: Picking the wrong option in Count clicks from , such as choosing Mouse but tapping the screen.
Fix: Match Count clicks from to the device input you will actually use for that round.
Mistake: Comparing Average CPS from a 1-second round to Best score for this test length from a 10-second round.
Fix: Compare scores only within the same Test length (seconds) , because saved best scores are grouped by test length.
Mistake: Thinking Peak CPS is your full-round speed.
Fix: Use Average CPS for your overall pace and Peak CPS only for your fastest 1-second burst.
Mistake: Clicking before the round starts or after it ends and expecting those clicks to raise Total clicks .
Fix: Only clicks during the timed round count toward Total clicks and Average CPS .
Mistake: Assuming Attempts for this test length or Best score for this test length will follow you to another browser or device.
Fix: Treat those values as device-local history unless you repeat the test on the same device and browser.
Mistake: Leaving the tab during a round and trusting the score anyway.
Fix: Stay on the active page for the full test, because losing focus can end the round and change the Note .
Limitations & Key Assumptions / Boundary Conditions
- Results depend on browser timing, device responsiveness, and your input hardware, so scores from different devices may not be perfectly comparable.
- Only valid clicks during the active timed round are counted; clicks before start and after end do not affect the result.
- Peak CPS uses a rolling 1-second window, so it measures your fastest short burst, not your exact speed at every instant.
- If the tab becomes hidden or loses focus during a run, the round may end early to avoid misleading timing.
- Best score for this test length and Attempts for this test length are stored locally on the same device and browser only.
- If local storage is blocked or cleared, the calculator can still show current results, but saved history may reset or stop updating.
- Mouse mode counts completed primary-button clicks, touch mode suppresses the synthetic mouse click that can follow a tap, and keyboard mode ignores held-key repeats. Browser behavior can still differ slightly by device.
Methodology
How the calculator measures CPS
The timed round starts from Calculate or from the first valid action on the test pad. A pad-start action counts once. Valid actions use a half-open time boundary: the start instant counts and the exact end instant does not. The round freezes if the page loses focus so delayed events cannot inflate the score.
Formulas used
average_cps = total_clicks / test_duration_seconds
peak_cps = max(clicks_in_any_rolling_1000ms_window)
personal_best_for_length = max(saved_average_cps_values_for_selected_duration)
1000 ms = 1 second
What each formula means
Average CPS is the main score. It spreads your counted clicks across the full selected time, so a longer round usually rewards steady speed more than a short burst.
Peak CPS checks every moving 1-second window in the round and keeps the highest value. This shows your fastest sustained burst over any 1-second span.
Best score for this test length looks only at saved Average CPS values from the same selected test length, so 1-second and 30-second rounds are not mixed.
Mini example
If you choose a 5-second test and make 24 valid clicks, then Average CPS is 24 divided by 5, which equals 4.8.
average_cps = 24 / 5 = 4.8 clicks/second
If your fastest rolling 1-second window contains 6 clicks, then Peak CPS is 6 clicks/second.
peak_cps = 6
If this is your first saved 5-second round on this device, then Best score for this test length is also 4.8 and Attempts for this test length becomes 1.
Assumptions behind the result
The calculator assumes the selected duration is one of the preset valid values, uses high-resolution timing when available for better short-test accuracy, and stores history locally on the current device when browser storage is available. Real-world results can differ if the browser delays events, blocks audio, clears storage, or handles touch and mouse events differently on your device.
