Limitations & Key Assumptions / Boundary Conditions
- This calculator estimates timing from breeding dates. If the mating date is uncertain, the due window gets wider.
- The main due estimate uses a practical 63 to 65 day window from breeding, but real pregnancies can vary.
- If breeding happened over several days, the calculator keeps that uncertainty instead of pretending one exact date is known.
- About how far along is shown only when Check progress as of date is on or after the possible breeding date and within the estimated pregnancy period.
- Days left until due window is signed on purpose. Negative values mean the check date is already past the estimated due window.
- If you do not know any breeding dates and only notice body or behavior changes, this tool cannot date the pregnancy reliably. A vet exam is needed for better timing.
- Confirmation and labor timing can differ from the estimate, so veterinary guidance matters if labor seems delayed, difficult, or abnormal.
Methodology
How the calculator estimates the due date
For a known single breeding date, the calculator adds a common practical gestation window of 63 to 65 days from mating and uses 64 days as the midpoint estimate.
due_start = breeding date + 63 days
due_end = breeding date + 65 days
best_guess_due_date = breeding date + 64 days
If breeding may have happened across several days, the calculator preserves that uncertainty by building the due window from the earliest and latest possible mating dates.
due_start = first possible breeding date + 63 days
due_end = last possible breeding date + 65 days
best_guess_due_date = midpoint of due_start and due_end
How pregnancy progress is estimated
If you enter Check progress as of date, the calculator compares that date with the possible breeding dates. In range mode, it gives a realistic progress range instead of one overly precise number.
days_along_earliest = check date - last possible breeding date
days_along_latest = check date - first possible breeding date
days_left_to_due_start = due_start - check date
days_left_to_due_end = due_end - check date
If the signed days-left values are negative, the check date is already past the estimated due window.
How milestone dates are set
The Possible vet confirmation window is based on approximate veterinary confirmation timing after breeding. Palpation may be possible around 21 to 28 days after breeding, and ultrasound is commonly useful from about 28 days after breeding [3].
