Fix: In reverse mode, the factor is a small decimal because the calculator is converting fluid ounces to gallons.

Mistake: Treating a negative Converted value as a physical amount of liquid.

Limitations & Key Assumptions / Boundary Conditions
- This converter only covers US liquid gallons and US fluid ounces, or imperial gallons and imperial fluid ounces. It does not convert dry gallons, liters, cups, or weight ounces.
- Results depend entirely on the selected Unit system. Mixing US and imperial units will give the wrong answer.
- Decimal places changes how the answer is shown, not the underlying conversion factor.
- Negative inputs are allowed as signed math, but they usually describe a change or difference rather than a real physical volume.
- Very large or very small values may display rounded results based on the chosen number of decimal places.

US fluid ounces = US gallons x 128
US gallons = US fluid ounces / 128
Imperial fluid ounces = imperial gallons x 160
Imperial gallons = imperial fluid ounces / 160
Worked mini-example
If Convert is gallons to fluid ounces, Unit system is US liquid, and Value to convert is 0.5, the math is:
0.5 x 128 = 64
Converted value is 64 US fl oz.
If Convert is fluid ounces to gallons, Unit system is imperial, and Value to convert is 80, the math is:
80 / 160 = 0.5
Converted value is 0.5 imp gal.
How rounding is handled
The converter calculates with the exact factor for the chosen system, then formats the displayed answer to the selected Decimal places. The same idea is used when showing the Quick reference values.
Assumptions used
The tool assumes you want liquid volume units only. It also assumes the selected unit system is correct for your source number. US and imperial gallons are not interchangeable, and fluid ounces are not the same as ounces by weight.[2]
