How to use our Gallons to Teaspoons Converter
- Enter the gallon amount from your recipe, label, worksheet, or mixing instruction.
- For a typical US liquid-volume conversion, leave the default choices as US liquid gallon and US customary teaspoon.
- Open Advanced options if the source uses an imperial gallon or US dry gallon, or if you need metric or imperial teaspoons.
- Click Calculate and use the first result as the number of selected teaspoons.
- Check the Unit definitions used result before measuring. The default factor is 768 only for US liquid gallons and US customary teaspoons.

Definitions
US liquid gallon: A US volume unit equal to 3,785.411784 mL.
Imperial gallon: A volume unit equal to 4,546.09 mL, used in UK imperial measurement contexts.
US dry gallon: A US dry-volume unit equal to about 4,404.884 mL. It differs from a US liquid gallon.
US customary teaspoon: A US volume unit equal to 1/768 of a US liquid gallon, or about 4.929 mL.
Metric teaspoon: The 5 mL teaspoon used by this converter.
Imperial teaspoon: A volume unit equal to 1/768 of an imperial gallon, or about 5.919 mL.
Conversion factor: The number of selected teaspoons in one selected gallon. With the default units, the factor is 768.
Common mistakes and quick fixes
Mistake: Using 768 for every gallon conversion.
Fix: Use 768 only for a US liquid gallon converted to US customary teaspoons. Select imperial or US dry gallon if the source names one of those units.
Mistake: Treating a metric teaspoon as a US customary teaspoon.
Fix: Select Metric teaspoon (5 mL) when that is the requested target. Its volume differs from a US customary teaspoon.
Mistake: Typing a decimal with a comma, such as 1,01.
Fix: Use a decimal point for decimals, such as 1.01. Use commas only for thousands groups, such as 1,000.
Mistake: Entering a negative gallon amount.
Fix: Enter zero or a positive amount. Zero is valid, but this volume converter does not accept negative physical volumes.
Mistake: Using the teaspoon result as an ingredient weight.
Fix: Teaspoons measure volume. A weight conversion also needs the ingredient's density.
Limitations & Key Assumptions / Boundary Conditions
- This converter measures volume only. Converting an ingredient volume to weight requires that ingredient's density.
- The answer changes with the selected gallon and teaspoon definitions. US liquid, imperial, and US dry gallons are different volumes.
- The calculator cannot verify the capacity of an unmarked household spoon. Use a marked measuring spoon when precision matters.
- Displayed decimal values may be rounded for reading, but the converter keeps the unrounded value for its calculation.
- Zero gallons is valid. Negative amounts, ranges, formulas, text with multiple numbers, and malformed comma grouping are not valid inputs.
Methodology
Calculation
The converter assigns a milliliter volume to the selected gallon and teaspoon definitions. It divides the gallon volume by the teaspoon volume to find the conversion factor, then multiplies that factor by the entered gallon amount.
teaspoons per gallon = gallon volume in mL / teaspoon volume in mL
teaspoons = gallons * teaspoons per gallon
For the default definitions, one US liquid gallon is 3,785.411784 mL and one US customary teaspoon is 4.92892159375 mL. Dividing those volumes gives exactly 768 teaspoons per gallon.
Worked example
To convert 0.5 US liquid gallon to US customary teaspoons, multiply by 768.
teaspoons = 0.5 * 768 = 384
The result is 384 US customary teaspoons. Choosing another gallon or teaspoon definition changes the factor because the unit volumes are different.
